Overview
Most Meghalaya tours are done in popular areas like Shillong, Cherrapunji, Dawki, etc., which gives you a perfect introduction to the abode of the clouds. But what if the Meghalaya itinerary could be enhanced by adding some lesser-known but extraordinarily beautiful places to the 7-day Meghalaya itinerary? ** The dry season in this region is generally considered to be from late October to April, so the waterfalls are not at their best during this time. However, the Umangkot River is at its clearest. ** You can customize this to include camping along the Umangkot River near Dawki instead of staying in Mawlynnong village. Camping along the river is not possible during the rainy season. ** Please note that the homestays in Cherrapunji and Mawlynnong are clean but basic due to their geographical location. If you feel that you are not flexible enough to stay in the experimental homestays, let us know and we will plan your accommodation in Shillong. ** The accommodation in Jowai is a 15-20 minute walk from the drop-off point. There will be people to help you with your luggage but the last part of this beautiful stay will be on foot.

Itinerary
- Day 01: Guwahati to Shillong
- After a brief meeting at Guwahati Airport, you will start your journey from Guwahati to Shillong. Leaving Guwahati behind, drive for a while through the plains of Assam. As you start to climb, notice that the shops on the right side of the road have Meghalaya written on them and the shops on your left have Assam written on them. This continues for the next few kilometers when you finally turn right and cross Meghalaya, Meghalaya, Meghalaya.
- Your first destination will be Umiam Lake, where you can enjoy the beauty of this serene place under the beautiful sky. Spend some time here. You can take a boat trip here if you wish. Once done, start your journey to Shillong and go straight to your lovely Khasi homestay. Evening is free to relax. End your day with a Khasi meal at your homestay.
- Day 02: Shillong to Cherrapunji
- Cherrapunji is one of the most beautiful parts of Meghalaya. There are many amazing places to visit in and around Cherrapunji, it will take almost a full day to travel from Shillong to Cherrapunji, even though the distance is very short. There are many places to visit on today's journey. By the end of the day, you will have visited the following places:
- Elephant Falls
- Shillong Park
- Maokadok Viewpoint
- Oh Kaaba Falls
- Arbah Caves
- Dienthalene Falls
- Nankalkhai Falls
- Day 03: Double-Decker Living Root Bridge Trek
- Today is going to be one of the most exciting days of your 7-day Meghalaya tour. You will walk across the bio-engineering marvel known as the Living Root Bridge or Jinkieng Nongriat (Double-Storied Living Root Bridge). The trek to the Double-Storied Living Root Bridge begins from a small village called Tyrna. Here you will be joined by your guide who will guide you through quaint villages, azure natural pools and picturesque vegetation.
- At a brisk pace, it will take you over an hour to reach the double-decker Living Root Bridge. Once there, spend some time visiting the natural pond near the Root Bridge. Explore the area on your own and then start walking back. Remember, lunch in Nangria should either consist of snacks and energy bars that you will carry or simple noodles or local food available there. Return to your location by evening.
- Day 04: Cherrapunji to Mawlynnong via Dawki
- Start today at leisure and after breakfast, head to Mawlynnong village. Known as the cleanest village in Asia, Mawlynnong is a quaint village perched on a small hill overlooking the plains of Bangladesh. But before we get there, we will take a detour towards the India-Bangladesh border at Dawki.
- Here, you can experience a boat trip on the clear waters (not included) and have your lunch on a river island in the Umongkot River. From there, you will visit the Tamabil border post before returning to Mawlynnong village for the night.
- Day 05: Mawlynnong to Krangsuri to Jowai
- Wake up early in the morning and explore the beautiful village with its century-old church, how everyone from children to the elderly try to avoid leaving even the slightest bit of garbage anywhere except on the roads and in dustbins. Freshen up and head back to your Khasi homestay and explore.
- After breakfast, we will visit the single-decker living root bridge at Riwai village. From there, start your journey to Jowai, but not before spending some time there visiting the stunning Krangsuri Falls. The evening is free to relax or explore your homestay. **Availability in Jowai is very limited. If Jowai is not possible, we will spend the night in Shillong.
- Day 06: Jowai to Nartiang Monoliths to Laitlam to Shillong / Shillong – Laitlam – Police Bazar
- Wake up early and head out for a stroll around your homestay. Located outside the town of Jowai, this place is perfect and a leisurely stroll is one of the best ways to experience the place. Then, after breakfast, head to the Nartiang Monolith Park and witness the stone monoliths of the Jaintia people placed there.
- Or, if staying in Shillong on day 5, the day's plan would include Shillong in the evening, Laitmanam Gorge, and Police Bazaar.
- Although this place is not very well maintained, it still holds a lot of significance for the region. The Monoliths of Meghalaya are said to be among the tallest rocks in the world and were erected by the erstwhile Jaintia kings. However, if you are not a history buff, you can skip this place and head straight to the Laitlam Gorges. It is a wonderful place to sit and relax. Then, proceed to your accommodation in Shillong.
- Day 07: Shillong to Guwahati
- On the last day of your trip, relax. Check out around 10 am and then do some last minute shopping from Shillong, if you haven't done so already. On the way back to Guwahati, don't hesitate to stop again at Umiam Lake or Umiam Lake Viewpoint before heading straight to the airport.
